82mm Screw-In Close Up Diopter

Description +
Get closer to your subject without sacrificing optical performance. The Revar Cine 82mm Screw-In Close-Up Diopter greatly improves your lens’s close-focus capability, opening up tighter framing and detailed close-ups with spherical and anamorphic lenses.
Made with the same professional-quality optical glass as our 138mm cinema diopters, the 82mm version brings that quality to today’s more compact cinema and photography setups. Precision-polished Schott B270 glass and broadband anti-reflective coatings deliver significantly higher optical quality than inexpensive close-up diopters.
Screw it directly onto a lens with standard 82mm front filter threads, or use a step-up ring to fit lenses with smaller filter threads.
A full diopter prevents your lens from focusing at infinity while it is attached. For example, a +2 diopter brings a lens set to infinity into focus at approximately 0.5 meter from the diopter.
Turning your lens toward its minimum focus setting brings focus closer still, greatly improving close-focus capability. The actual minimum focus distance varies with your lens’s native close-focus ability and optical design. Because lens focus distances are generally measured from the camera’s sensor plane, the distance between the front-mounted diopter and the sensor also affects the focus distance measured from the camera. These figures are a starting point; check focus with your specific lens and camera setup.
82mm +2 Split Diopter
The Revar Cine 82mm +2 Screw-In Split Diopter places close-up glass over one half of the opening while leaving the other half unobstructed. This allows you to bring a foreground subject into focus through the diopter while retaining your lens’s normal focus range—including infinity—through the uncovered half.
Unlike a full diopter, the split version creates two distinct focus zones within the same image. It is a creative tool for compositions that keep a nearby subject and a distant subject sharp simultaneously, without relying solely on stopping down the lens.

- Professional Optical Glass: Precision-polished Schott B270 glass provides the same glass quality as our 138mm cinema diopters in a compact screw-in format.
- Broadband Anti-Reflective Coatings: Help minimize unwanted reflections and preserve image contrast and color fidelity.
- Ideal for Anamorphic Lenses: Expand close-focus options for lenses with long minimum focus distances.
- Direct Lens Mounting: Fits standard 82mm front filter threads without requiring a matte box or separate filter tray.
- Adaptable to Smaller Lenses: Compatible with smaller filter-thread sizes using an appropriately sized step-up ring.
- Matte box integration: Use the 85mm outside diameter of the 82mm diopter ring to clamp onto matte boxes with 85mm adapter plates.
- Full and Split Options: Choose a full diopter for close-ups across the frame or the +2 split diopter for compositions combining near and distant subjects.

Crafted from high-grade Schott glass, our 82mm thread-in diopters feature a reinforced, anodized aluminum ring with an 85mm outside diameter for professional use. They thread directly onto lenses with 82mm filter threads, adapt to smaller lens filter threads using step-up rings, and accommodate clamp-on matte boxes equipped with 85mm adapters. Made to the same optical standard as our 138mm diopters, they preserve exceptional edge-to-edge sharpness in a compact format. Advanced anti-reflective coatings minimize unwanted reflections for clear, precise close-focus imagery.
Get closer with precision optical power from +0.50 to +2.
Perfect for anamorphic lenses which have limited close focus abilities.
+2 Split diopter help you acheive deep depth of field at wider T stops.
Durable metal ring for the most demanding professional use. 85mm outside diameter for clamping onto matte boxes.
High transmission coating that won’t change color fidelity and minimize reflections.
Compatible with all 82mm threaded lenses. Use adapter rings to smaller sizes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Any adapter ring from 82mm down to smaller size threaded lenses works. This allows you to adapt the diopters so you don't have to buy multiple sizes.
Our diopters are currently available in 138mm and 82mm.
Depending on your application, the best strength can vary. If you are after close shots at least half of the minimum focus distance of your lens, then the +2 is most popular. If you are looking to get just a little bit closer with Anamorphic lenses, the +0.50 is popular giving you the ability to go from mid-range to head and shoulders type shots easily.
